Lighting

Monday 8th November

Today was our first day of our demonstrational tasks. My group first started in a lighting demonstration. We looked at three-point lighting. For three-point lighting you have three lights, the Key Light is the main light, the Fill Light is the secondary light, and the Back/Hair light helps to break the subject from the background. I was put in control of the fill light, so I now better understand how to use the basic lights as well as adjust their brightness and intensity. Learning the basics of lighting will allow me to research further into it. We were also told about a painter called Rembrandt who I am planning to do some further research into.

Rembrandt

Rembrandt was very focused on realism. Especially the use of lighting. Most famously he is known for the "Rembrandt patch". This is an illuminated triangle under the eye of the less illuminated side of the face. This is very accurate to realistic lighting and is seen in a lot of films today.
