Moving Demo
Friday 1st July
Today was the final day for our “The Incredibles” Scene. Two of the people in our group focused on editing the piece, while the rest of us helped in creating a powerpoint presentation to present to the class.
I created two slides for the powerpoint, focusing on the organisation of the team, as well as the challenges we faced and how we overcame them. Overall, I felt the final powerpoint was very good and I felt confident that we covered everything we wanted to talk about. We discussed things such as the loss of crew members and the time management as well as things that went well such as the set and costumes.
Our editing went a little astray as they slightly ran out of time to fit in all the finished audio, but even with these slight errors I still think the final piece turned out well. I actually went back later in the day and created my own version of the edit. As this was outside of lesson I was able to spend more time on it. But this was purely for my own enjoyment as I wanted to see what the final version could’ve been if we had had more time.
Monday 4th July
We were officially introduced to Unit 11 today. This is the Unit that we will be starting over summer, and focuses on looking forward into our future and looking at Universities, Apprenticeships and Employment. This will help us to make better formed decisions when choosing what to pursue after College.
We were shown the first learning outcome of the project today. This includes us needing to complete a SWOT analysis, career ambitions questions and then looking into each of the three pathways individually. I started by first creating a planned list of everything I needed to do so that I could remember what I’ve completed and what I have left to do.
And so then I could actually start on the work for this unit. For today, I simply filled in my SWOT analysis form. This turned out to be slightly complicated as this one is different to ones I’ve done in the past, however through asking some questions as well as figuring certain things out, I’m confident that my final version is of a good standard. I’m considering possibly asking a lecturer to check over it to make sure that what I’ve done is correct. But for now I believe I’ve made a good start to this project, and over the coming days I’ll continue to work on this first learning outcome.
For the second year of this course, I will need to create a new website as I am running out of pages on my current website, and as this project is basically the start of year 2, I felt it made sense to start creating this website now.
I began by duplicating my current website and then deleting all the content off it. This allows me a template that I’m familiar with but also allowing me to start completely fresh. One thing I want to work on for this new website is the aesthetic of it, as I felt my first year website was pretty bland and more focused on just having all my work on it. This wasn’t bad but I want to be able to have a good balance of both function and form.
And so today I started on some research of how to create a better looking website and just like my Unit 11 work I’ll continue working on this over the summer so that hopefully by the start of second year, I’ll have a good foundation of a website on which I can work on.
Tuesday 5th July
Today, I continued working on the start of Unit 11. This included answering the career ambition questions. These questions focused on potential careers I’d like, why those careers would be ideal for me, what inspired me for those career routes, and the methods to achieving those goals.
At this current point in my life, I’m not 100% sure of the exact job role that I want to go into. And so to complete these questions I went onto the screenskills website and conducted some research into lots of potential job roles, and this led me to choosing 4 different job roles that I was interested in. These being: Producer; Editor; Assistant Director and Prop Master.
I go more in depth into why I chose these in my answers for the questions. But briefly, I chose them as many of them are part of the whole process of creating a media project, as well as combining both creative and technical skills. As well as just being things that I feel I would actually enjoy doing.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with the work I completed today and I think I’ve learnt quite a lot about the possible job roles that could be out there for me.
Wednesday 6th July
I started looking into the University section of LO1 for Unit 11 today. Originally, I was planning to complete this whole section today. But by the evening I had only just completed my 5 fact sheets, and since I have time in summer to continue this, I’ve decided to push back the last two parts of this section till tomorrow. Additionally my current plan is to complete all the LO1 work and then start uploading it onto my website. As I’m creating a new website uploading a larger amount at a time will allow me to keep the aesthetic continuous between the different sections.
And so the work I did today included: looking at my specific skills for University, The pros and cons of university, creating a UCAS account and finding 5 courses I was interested in and finally creating a fact sheet for each of these courses.
Before this project, I had already started looking at universities and so I have already visited a few open days and created a UCAS Account. This meant I already knew of some courses that I was interested in.
The first three tasks weren’t too hard but the fact sheets took quite a while to create, mainly as they covered a wide range of information from the course itself to the cost and accommodation of the Uni. I found most of my information from the Uni websites themselves. And although it took quite a while, I actually found it very useful, and I feel I’ve learned quite a lot from having to complete these fact sheets.
With today’s work complete, it leaves me to look at student finance and writing a final evaluation for Universities tomorrow. Then as hopefully I’ll have more time, I’ll be able to start the work looking at Apprenticeships.
Thursday 7th July
Once again I continued with Unit 11 work for today. But at the beginning of the lesson they introduced us to LO2 which must also be completed over summer. It seems like quite a lot of work, but I’ve added the LO2 work into my organised plan so I should be able to complete it all in the designated time.
And so today I began by finishing off the initial university research, which comprised of looking into student finance and then summarising why the university pathway may be good for me. These tasks weren’t too hard. My brother is at university so I already knew a little bit about student finance and I was able to complete both of these tasks relatively easy in lesson.
Then I began on looking into the apprenticeship research. This began by once again looking into the specific skills I have as well as the pros and cons of apprenticeships. I completed these tasks the same way I did the ones for university. I looked over my SWOT analysis sheet again so I knew which skills to talk about and then thought about all the pros and cons that I felt would affect me the most.
But the final task of the day turned out to be the hardest. This was finding 5 different apprenticeships so I can make the fact sheets tomorrow. At the time I’m looking lots of apprenticeships have just closed so its hard to find information. And many of the media apprenticeships were focused on social media for brands which aren’t media related. And I didn’t want to look into ones like those. But in the end I was able to find 5 different ones which I though seemed interesting. These ranged from high end ones at the BBC and ITV to closer ones at more independent companies.
With this completed it leaves me to complete the apprenticeship research tomorrow.
Friday 8th July
We didn’t do much in class today since it’s the last day end of the year. So that means all the work I completed today was done at home.
And the work today consisted of the last tasks for the research into Apprenticeships. This began by creating the 5 fact sheets about the apprenticeships that I found yesterday. These fact sheets were slightly easier than the ones for University as they covered less information. However they turned out to be quite useful, as I actually discovered a lot about each of the different apprenticeships. Additionally, as I looked into 5 different ones, I was able to discover aspects that were common between each of them, which then allowed me to gain knowledge of apprenticeships as a whole.
After this task was done, I went on to researching about finance and how it relates to apprenticeships. This mainly consisted of looking at how apprentices are paid, but also the differences between apprentices and university students. Particularly in regard to student finance. This last aspect of the research was really useful as I didn’t really know anything about apprenticeships and finance except for the little I’d discovered when completing my fact sheets.
And finally I finished off the day by completing the summary of why the apprenticeship route may be good for me.
With today being the final day, I am now officially in summer holiday which means that my work schedule will be quite different. Currently I’m aiming to have completed LO1 and have it all uploaded to my WIX website by next Tuesday. Now that I only have the employment route and final evaluation to complete, I think this is possible. And after I’ve completed that I’ll be able to look into starting the work for LO2.
